Welcoming Katala, to the Flight team.

Please give a warm welcome for our new Design Lead, Katala Randell. With over 15 years experience, Katala has worked within most areas of the industry – in-house, traditional agencies, digital agencies, as well as being a design and advertising lecturer for four years.

With a passion for brand and CX, Katala believes in developing ideas and executing experiences that are robust across all channels. A brand’s digital presence is just one piece of the puzzle and needs to be viewed with the wider brand goals in mind, while continually adapting to the changing landscape.

Having worked with large global brands as well as Kiwi start-ups and SMEs, Katala brings a breadth of knowledge to Flight, and thrives on creating work that drives positive brand associations to help fuel life-long customer advocacy and business growth.

Let's get to know her a little more.

What made you want to work at Flight?

So many reasons. The role and being able to work under the experienced mentorship of Jeff (Creative Director). The chance to learn more about Flight’s amazing tech capabilities. The ability to add value in new areas for Flight. Plus everyone I met during the interview process were really lovely (and still are now that I’ve actually worked with them for a few weeks).

Is there anyone in particular who inspires you?

I’ve never been one to have that ‘inspiration’ person. I’ve been thankful to have a lot of amazing people in my life, both personally and professionally, who have inspired me in different ways, at different times.

What are three things that usually bother other people, but you don't mind?

1 - Children asking ‘why?’ a million times a day. The weird places the conversations go are super entertaining. It makes you realise we don’t ask why enough as adults.

2 - Waking up at 4.15am to go to the gym. I’m really not a morning person, but it’s worth it to have the freedom for social activities in the evenings.

3 - People who cancel plans at the last minute. I’m super introverted so any excuse to stay home and read my book is OK with me.

Do you have a hidden talent no one knows about?

I’m a classically trained violinist. I was obsessed with Vanessa Mae at age 5 and convinced my parents to let me play. I think they indulged in what they thought was going to be a fleeting phase, but I ended up playing for over 10 years and was actually pretty good. I still have my violin but haven’t played in years.
