Welcoming Jake, to the Flight Digital team.

With overseas experience in Australia and Canada, Jake joined the Flight Digital Projects team in 2020 as a Developer to help further his skillset. Whilst Jakes experience lies mainly in VFX for movies, the effort and time he put in to grow his development skills in his spare time helped land him a job at Flight!

Jake completed a Bachelor of Digital Design from AUT and was even nominated for a Student Best Award by the faculty for his end of year assignment. His learnings at AUT have been invaluable for his professional development moving forward.

Jake is already making a positive impact here at Flight helping out on a number of creative development projects and putting his wide skillset to use. He looks forward to what 2021 will bring!

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO WORK WITH THE FLIGHT TEAM?

I saw a really unique opportunity that I wouldn’t get with a bigger software company where I could jump right into some intriguing and challenging projects. I’m happy to say it hasn’t disappointed me in both aspects of the job. On top of that I was really excited about the attitude of the business and where it wanted to be.

HOW DOES FLIGHT COMPARE WITH YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OVERSEAS?

I worked in much larger companies overseas, so joining a smaller team was definitely a welcome change. The larger companies tend to have systems and structures that don’t change often, so I am excited to be joining the team while so much growth is happening right now.

DO YOU HAVE A HIDDEN TALENT? IF SO, WHY DO YOU KEEP IT A SECRET?

I’m actually a great singer, the world is just not ready to hear it yet. So tell Beyonce and Taylor Swift to move aside because my time to shine is coming!

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU’VE TRAVELLED IN THE WORLD?

Japan would have to be the number one. I’ve been there a few times and don’t seem to ever get sick of it. The culture is incredible and its so easy to get immersed in their way of life.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND A MOVIE OR TV SERIES THAT YOU’VE RECENTLY WATCHED AND NOW CAN’T STOP?

I recently finished watching the Mandolorian on Disney Plus, I’m a bit of a Star Wars fan on the side so that’s right up my alley. I’ll happily recommend that to anyone. Plus, who doesn’t love baby Yoda?

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?

Ideally in a more senior or leadership role. I’ve got a lot to learn but eventually I would love to be able to help push the technical capabilities of the team and then teach what I know to new team members.
